House United Habitat for Humanity Build

The University of Alabama and Auburn University have started a new program to work together to help the people of the state of Alabama. Rather than merely being rivals on the football field, students from the two institutions will collaborate to build homes for residents of communities in Alabama.

The first House United Habitat Build was scheduled to take place in Gulf Shores, Alabama in June. After the devastating tornadoes in Tuscaloosa in April, the decision was made by both schools to move the build to Tuscaloosa. During the week of July 17-23, 2011, students from both institutions came together to work on 2 houses for 2 families in the Holt Community in Tuscaloosa County. In 2012, both schools will gathered together again to help families Baldwin County, Alabama during Spring Break.  In 2012/2014, the partnership will continue in an effort to assist families in Lee County, AL.
